NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN

Montgomery, Alabama Chapter

MEETING MINUTES for October 10, 2009

Chat & Chew instead of formal meeting convened at 1:30 P.M. at Starbucks on Zelda Road.

1)  Welcome from Chapter President Shirley Ann Rawls.

2)  Alabama NOW Annual State Conference

Saturday, October 24, 2009, in Birmingham

Theme:  Comprehensive Sex Education

   What is it?

   Why do we need it?

  How do we get it?

Montgomery NOW members will be attending -

Car pool, share hotel costs if going to Friday's reception

3)  Public Witness Against Domestic Violence 10/18 at 3 pm in Cloverdale Park

4)  Virtual Chapters:  Shirley Ann has received no feedback yet from membership on going virtual, nor from National on going virtual within a state.  It would make sense to go virtual within Alabama as it has been difficult to get other cities to maintain active chapters with regular meetings.

THE TOP FIVE REASONS ALABAMA NOW SHOULD BE A VIRTUAL TEAM...
1. Frequent and better communication with ALL members, using emails,   conference calls and webinars on a quarterly basis.
2. Fewer meetings, only one annual meeting, which will boost morale.
3. Less travel, save gas, money and energy....more time for family and friends.
4. Achieve better results during challenging times.
5. Take hold of the future...move AL NOW into the 21st Century.

5December 12, 2009 - Chapter's Annual Meeting / Election of Officers

Nominating Committee consists of members attending.

Will wait to hear from National about becoming Virtual before nominating a slate

Meeting place in December?  Someplace with a Holiday twist?

6)  Diaper Bank Report given by Elaine Fuller.

To date, Elaine has collected and distributed over 6000 diapers.

Deborah Little suggested presenting Diaper Bank at an Equality Alabama Second Sunday Supper.

7)  Terri Wohlscheid represented Montgomery NOW at the recent Alabama ARISE meeting, in place of Larry Grewelle.
