MEETING MINUTES for June 12, 2010

Meeting convened at 1:30 P.M. at the Juliette Hampton Morgan Library, 245 High Street

 

1)  Treasurer's Report by Larry Grewelle.  We received a refund from National.

     Amy Applegate moved that we donate $100 to help sponsor next year's Hate Crimes Vigil.

     Motion passed.

 

2)  Updates and upcoming events:

Clinic Escort – Report by Amy Applegate.

Diaper Bank – Report by Shirley Ann Rawls.  She has made partnerships with AL Children's Rehabilitation Service (CRS), Huggies, and Aid to Inmate Mothers (AIM)

Bring diapers to Alabama NOW Conference in September!

Alabama NOW Membership Drive has yielded 5 new members.  Still going until July 1.

National NOW Conference in Boston, 2-4 July- anyone interested in going should contact Shirley Ann at mgmalnow@gmail.com  Because Shirley Ann will be attending as a National Board member, Montgomery and AL NOW will be partially reimbursed for her sponsorship.

Alabama NOW State Conference – will be a one-day event on September 18, tentatively rescheduled the Ken Baker Center - (note change in date and place).

Theme:  Writing Women Back into ALABAMA history.

One confirmed speaker so far:  Mary Ann Neely, a historian, preservationist, author, and former educator.  She earned a degree in history at Huntingdon College before becoming a director of the Landmarks Foundation, which oversees Old Alabama Town.  She has written and edited several books on local history.  She will be speaking at the afternoon session.

Terri Wohlscheid has a possible speaker for the morning session.

Schedule:  Registration 8:30 a.m.,  Conference 9-4.  There will be lunch break with box lunches.  Will adjourn to Larry's house for drinks and hors d'ouvre.

 

2)   PROJECT FOR THIS MEETING:  Pack 10 purses for Aid to Inmate Mothers (AIM).

      See minutes from the April meeting to learn more about AIM.

      Members brought new pajamas, toiletries, makeup to put into oversized purses for

      program participants being released from prison.

 

3)  MID-SOUTH NOW E-MAIL GROUP:  Your opportunity to VENT! in an effort to communicate across the region (AL, AR, LA, MS, TN).  Learn more about Mid-South events and fun stuff!
